Still Disabled…

prettysicksupply:

Anyone who uses a mobility aid even occasionally has had to deal with other people’s reactions.  And one of the biggest annoyances is what happens when we step away from, or don’t use, or CAN’T use our regula mobility aids for whatever reason.

.

Any ambulatory wheelchair user has inevitably stood up to get something off a grocery shelf and had to deal with accusatory glares and even outright accusations of fakery.

.

Those of us using canes or crutches have undoubtedly had to forgo them in some family member’s tight-spaeced home and had to explain (usually more than once) that not using them doesn’t mean we’re “cured.”

.

Our new designs remind folks, even when we’re note using these devices- we are STILL DISABLED.

[img description: 3 blue toned shirts, 1 ¾ sleeve, 1 long sleeve and 1 hoodie.  All bear a swirly gray design with text reading, “In my chair… STILL DISABLED… out of it.”]

[img description: A tote bag that’s white on one side and black on the other. Both sides bear a swirly gray design with text reading, “On my crutches… STILL DISABLED… Off of them.”]

[img description: A white mug laying on a counter surrounded by colorful donuts. On the mug is a swirly gray design with text reading, “With my cane… STILL DISABLED… Without it.”]

Available as Tees, Bags, Mugs or Pillows, get out ahead of the inevitable with these designs- now in our PrettySick Supply Shop.

You know what I want?

I want a Sanders Side’s high school/college au where the stereotypes are switched.

Instead of Jock Roman, give me Roman who is a bit of a nerd. Roman who geeks out about Disney and musical theatre to anyone who will listen. Roman who has overlarge glasses that are bright red and bright colorful sweater vests. Roman who is a bit too introverted to be considered for the main roles in the school plays and musicals, so he works on sets, getting his creativity out in the only way he can.

Instead of Pastel Patton, give me Patton who wears only blacks and grays. Patton who grew out his hair to cover his eyes. Patton who writes angsty poetry that is also very poignant. Patton who is never without his huge headphones, which he uses to block out everyone else’s words about his dark demeanor and bad jokes. Patton who, no matter his own depression, always tries to cheer others up with his dry humor, even if it doesn’t work all the time.

Instead of Goth/Emo Virgil, give me Virgil who plays sports. Virgil who, despite his scrawny stature, is surprisingly good at running. Virgil who has an overlarge letterman jacket to replace his hoodie. Virgil who plays football, baseball, swimming, or whatever else. Virgil who’s popular and tough, hiding his insecurities behind his large group of almost friends.

Instead of Nerd Logan, give me Logan who wears bright colors and flowery patterns because they’re calming, and self expression is good for mental health. Logan who wears soft blues and pinks and mint greens, and always has at least one butterfly clip in his hair, to hold his bangs back while he studies. Logan who hates that he’s made fun of for his choice of style, because he’s not a joke, alright?

@romantichopelessly you asked. You shall receive

Can we all take a moment to appreciate @ierindoodles because YES PLEASE?!
(Personally I love the idea of Jock Virgil like a lot??) Look at them!

Beautiful idea OP executed just as beautifully <333
