The internet could change next week, and not in a good way

You may have heard about the efforts in Europe to reform copyright law. The debate has been ongoing in the European Parliament for months. If approved next week, these new regulations would require us to automatically filter and block content that you upload without meaningful consideration of your right to free expression.

We respect the copyrights and trademarks of others, and we take all reports seriously to ensure that your creative expression is protected. We make this clear in our Community Guidelines. There’s already a legal framework that works and is fair: Today we take down posts and media that contain allegedly infringing content when we receive a valid DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown request. We also provide clear-cut ways for people to fight back if they believe their removed content was not a true violation. These instances are monitored and reported and live in our biannual transparency report

The suggestion to use automated filters for issues of copyright is short-sighted at best and harmful at worst. Automated filters are unable to determine whether a use should be considered “fair use” under the law and are unable to determine whether a use is authorized by a license agreement. They are unable to distinguish legitimate parody, satire, or even your own personal pictures that could be matched with similar photographs that have been protected by someone else. We don’t believe that technology should replace human judgment.

Tumblr is and always has been a place for creative expression, and these new regulations would only make it harder for you to express yourself with the freedom and clarity you do so now.

If you access Tumblr from Europe and want to act, you can find more information on saveyourinternet.eu

Please reblog this as much as you reblogged the posts about Net Neutrality.

If Article 13 is approved, European People might be basically banned from uploading any fan content.

You won’t get new fanfics from people in Europe.

You won’t get new gifs from people in Europe.

You won’t get new fanart from people in Europe.

Because they’ll be automatically filtered and blocked!

We might leave Tumblr and other fandom pages.

And if we’re getting all our content blocked?

You might lose some of your favourite followers/mutuals.

You might not get to read the rest of that fic you’re dying to read – simply because the writer lives in the wrong country.

So do whatever you can to help us stop this.

You know what bugs me about soulmate aus? So, I’m assuming that this whole “the first thing your soulmate says to you blahblahblah” is a worldwide thing. So many of the aus I’ve read have a quote at some point that addresses how tragic it is when people have soul words that say something like “hi” or “‘sup” which makes NO SENSE! In a world where the first thing you say to people is THAT important, WHY GOD WHY would the culture still use standard greetings? Who the fuck is still saying hello at this point? Everyone in these worlds would surely develop a personalized greeting different from everybody else’s to prevent confusion. Like how no 2 racehorses can have the same racing name? The best part is that every time people met someone new for the first time, they would try to say something that no one else had said. You’d have people meeting eachother at a job intetview, they’d shake hands, smile politely, then one of them would be like “Every Tuesday, I hard even grape purple farm house sunsets too” and this would be perfectly normal. Or you’d go up to the cash register at Starbucks and instead of saying “Hello, what can i get for you today?” She’d look you right in the eye and say “I don’t know what Space Jam is” THEN ask you what you want and she’d repeat that to every customer in the line for the rest of her career. And because they live in the AU, nobody would think it was weird.

^^In which AUs get interesting with their world building. I love it.

the sides playing uno is something i need

roman: competitive. trash-talking, flaunting, a giant tease, all the dramatics. probably gives a speech before putting down each card. gets hit with a draw four and cries for five minutes in the bathroom. slaps logan at the game’s climax

logan: strategic. he’d be constantly analysing his technique and would keep tabs on the others cards. eventually he gets caught up in the competitiveness and becomes SUPER militant and absolutely terrifying

virgil: gives zero shits, does no planning, and somehow manages to win every single game. loves to engage with roman’s trash-talk and snark him back. throws his cards down on the pile whilst scrolling through tumblr and smirks as roman lets out anguished screams

deceit: the cheater, obviously. keeps his cards concealed at all times, probably dealt the cards and gave himself six and everyone else eight, invents more and more stupid rules so things go his way, sits the closest to the pile so he can switch his cards if his hand isn’t great. nobody can prove he’s cheating but they all know.

remy: thinks games are stupid and refuses to engage but gets tangled up in the drama and ends up as distraught as roman. throws his cards on the ground and leaves when he loses because ‘that’s it, i’m done, i can’t even be in the same room as you traitors’

patton: the one who’s just trying to have a nice family game night why is everyone screaming

“UNO!” Virgil called out, slapping his card on the pile. Everyone tenses up because this is the fifth time Virgil called uno that night.

“Guys! Change it to yellow! He doesn’t have yellow!” Roman all but yells.

“Maybe I do have yellow, you don’t what my card is,” Virgil smirked, checking his card. It was a blue two and prayed in his mind that his bluff would work and that they would change the colour.

Talking strategies slowly became screaming at it other as it got closer to being Virgil’s turn. Logan was scratching his head in frustration as he tried to get someone to plus four or plus two Virgil but he knew that no one had one in their deck. He even had notes surrounding his seat, trying to keep track of everyone’s last cards.

Deceit couldn’t even cheat to get Virgil off uno, it was like there was no good cards in the pile. It was soon Remy’s turn who carelessly chucked a wild card.

“Blue,” Remy sipped his drink and everyone could only stare in silence at the game changer. Virgil smirked out the outcome and was about to put his card down when Logan interrupted.

“Wait…” Logan looked up from his notes and Virgil’s smirked widened. “Was that what he needed?” Logan questioned. Virgil gently put his last card down and the whole room erupted in groans and screams of denial.

“NOOOOO!” Roman whined, trying to hug Patton for comfort but he was too busy packing up the cards, sighing at everyone’s reaction.

“I’m never playing Uno with you guys again,” Deceit said dejectedly.

“Why can’t we ever have a nice family game night?” Patton muttered to himself among the chaos.

“A brother is a friend the world gave to you. A friend is a brother your heart chose for you.

The newest Sanders Sides videos awoke a soft spot for Roman in me, and after reading multiple posts from people being delighted at how happy he was to see Virgil, I had a sudden urge to draw these two again.

I’d been in need of a new sketchbook too, and this is the very first piece of art on the very first page.

This is what a real, qualified OBGYN will tell you about what women feel when they get an abortion

Dr. Willie Parker, who is trained as a gynecologist and OBGYN, is a hero for the pro-choice movement because he’s honest about the undiscussed aspects of getting (or not getting) an abortion. Watch how he gives a consultation.

That last statement about regret is so important, because so many people don’t understand what it is or what causes it. Anti-choicers exploit this by manipulating pregnant people and creating doubt, which only increases the likelihood of regret, no matter what decision the pregnant person makes. You know what is best for you, even if it takes some time to figure it out.

Willie Parker is a HERO among common people!

Dr. Parker is one of the few things I like about Alabama and we are so fortunate to have him here.
