what does “i’m telling you three times” mean? where did that come from/start?

justisaisfine:

oh oh!! it’s a thing the brothers have that basically equals to “no matter how many times you ask/ how the situation changes and/or how you feel about it- the Thing I’m telling you rn is a Thing that will not change”

it came from the time when they all started to take care of each other, when one of them felt really bad or scared and they literally couldn’t do what was asked if them (i.e.: go ask permission from a parent to do a thing, talk to a stranger, go to some events etc), instead of repeating themselves three times or more they’d shorten it so the other would know right away that the issue would not change with a bit of convincing.

in the same way now they use it to reassure “I’m telling you three times; I’m fine” is telling the others that the situation is under control and to not worry about them.

it’s only ever used in very serious ways, never like nah I don’t feel like doing that one things or w/e, and they never go against it- they accept this right away when it’s said and find ways to accommodate/fix the issue instantly.

growing up with next to no parental guidance or model, it’s hard to learn each other’s boundaries and whatnots, esp after trauma. So they came up with this to help them understand each other better.
