New girl in my Sunday school class: Are you a girl?

Me: No, but people used to think I was a girl.

Girl: Oh. Is that why the other teacher called you (deadname)?

Me: Yes, that’s my old name I used before I told people I’m not a girl. But I haven’t used my new name forever so sometimes (other teacher) forgets.

Girl: Okay. I’ll remember to use your new name! *bounces over to the toy cars*

…….

Me: I want you to start calling me Mx instead of Miss. Okay?

Little boy: Okay. *violently stabs crayon into paper* Mx Roman, I broked the crayon.

Me: That’s probably because you stabbed the paper with it, buddy.

…….

3 y/o : Are you a boy or a girl?

Me: Sometimes I’m a boy. Sometimes I’m not a boy or a girl.

3 y/o: *proudly puffs out chest* I’m a girl all the time.

Me: Good for you, kiddo.

3 y/o: I know.

…….

Preschoolers understand better than any adult I’ve ever met.

This is genuinely so adorable and also yeah preschoolers have more intellect than many so called adults

Kids are the best at acceptance because the haven’t being corrupted by society yet

Actually I’ve also heard above 3 y/o say “I’m not a buddy! I’m a girl!” And me and the other teachers had to calmly explain to her that buddy is actually a gender neutral word but she wasn’t having it.

Except, it isn’t, really.. and if she doesn’t like being called that, it doesn’t fucking matter if it’s ‘gender neutral’ you can just respect her wishes instead of getting other adults to force her to accept something that she’s clearly uncomfortable with

Like, did you really think that was the right thing to do and we’d all congratulate you for bullying a 3 y/o??

We didn’t call her buddy after that since she didn’t like it. She just seemed to think that no girl would ever be okay with being called that. Where did I say we were bullying her? We were just trying to explain why someone might call a girl their buddy. Our explaination didn’t work so whatever. She’s three. She interprets society in weird ways and acts accordingly. Her mom was there and didn’t quite understand where she got this idea anyways.

And I’m not looking for congratulations. I just thought it was a funny example of how kids interpret society’s cues sometimes. I’m sorry if I worded my story wrong, but you appear to be making some huge leaps.
