((This is from a small piece of writing about how Logan and Virgil met so don’t mind me))
“Everything came upon him by surprise. A wave of fear started from his stomach quickly swallowed his tiny body whole. His heartbeat increased its pace, so fast and so painful that the boy could hear the pounding clearly with his own two ears, as if it was going to jump out from his chest. His legs trembled and soon gave in. His breathing became hard to catch. It was unbearable for him to stand up on his own now.
As soon as Virgil began to fell down on his two knees, the whispering and muttering which started surrounding him became harder and harder to hear. It’s not like the kid would be bothered anyway. After all, it was so embarrassing to have a panic attack like this, not at his house or anywhere else near his “safe zone”, but it had to be at his school, in public, where a bunch of strangers were looking at him and probably would judge him till the end of his high school life. And no one was going to come and help him. He was alone.
– Everybody stay out! Leave! Right now!
A loud voice seemed to have echoed the surrounding area of the hallway. Everyone quickly scattered, still murmuring with each other as they walked to their next class. Virgil heard the same person, this time with a warmer and more soothing tone, asking him with care and consideration next to his ears:
– It’s okay now… I’m here. Just concentrate on your breathe…
Virgil listened to him and started practicing the ‘4-7-8 method’ that his doctor had taught him about before. “Calm down Virgil, inhale for four seconds, hold in for seven seconds, exhale for eight seconds. Breathe in for four seconds,…” He talked to himself, repeated what was instructed inside his head. At the point where he was able to breathe more properly, he opened his eyes.
In front of him, a male, probably the same year as his, with thick glasses and slicked dark hair was looking at Virgil, letting out a sigh of relief to see him getting better bit by bit:
– Oh thank god! You did such a great job! It’s okay now, just tell me what you need or where you want to go and I’ll take you there.
– Ah… The bathroom will be good… please. Thank you…”
