letters-to-lgbt-kids:

My dear trans girls,

The “All trans girls are beautiful!” kind of positivity is uplifting to some and that’s great. But if you see those posts and your first thought is “No, not me”, there’s nothing wrong with you.

Don’t get me wrong – you are beautiful and I do hope that you know that. But the problem with generalized positivity is that it mostly works for people who are already confident.

You’re a real girl, even if you don’t feel cute or beautiful or hot. It’s okay to be insecure – it doesn’t make you less of a girl.

You can’t force yourself to feel confident, you can’t force yourself to love your body. Don’t beat yourself up for not agreeing with every nice thing you read.

I hope that you will one day see that all those nice things are true – in the meantime, just know that other people already know how great you are, even when you struggle to believe it.

With all my love,

Your Tumblr Mom
